New Macintosh SE Configuration Added
San Francisco, California. September 19, 1988. A new configuration based on
the Apple(R) Macintosh(R) SE, the most popular selling model in the Macintosh
personal computer family, was announced today by Apple Computer, Inc. during a
press conference held at the Herbst Theatre in San Francisco. The new unit
will feature two megabytes (MB) of random access memory and an internal 40
megabyte (MB) hard drive.
"Customer satisfaction with the original Macintosh SE, coupled with a demand
for increased storage capacity and memory, lead Apple to offer a new Macintosh
SE configuration," stated Randy Battat, vice president of product marketing.
"Macintosh customers who want to take greater advantage of HyperCard(R) and
MultiFinder(TM) will benefit from the extended functionality offered by this
model."
The new configuration maintains the compact Macintosh signature design, an
eight megahertz (MHz) Motorola 68000 microprocessor chip, and an expandable
Macintosh SE-bus slot which allows the unit to be configured to accommodate a
very broad spectrum of applications and to grow to fit a customer's needs. Up
to six external SCSI peripherals can also be daisy-chained via the external
port.
Immediately available, the platinum-colored 2MB Macintosh SE has a suggested
retail price of 5,069 and is also available internationally in 21 localized
versions.
